I’m Jillian from the Nourished Dwelling. Welcome! I’m a wife, mom of two, and a passionate homemaker. It’s here that I hope you find healthy nourishing recipes you love and inspiration that empowers your everyday life.
Hey there, I’m Jillian!
I never saw myself as a stay at home mom or even more… a blogger. But here I am sharing my heart for nourishment on the crazy world wide web. But with any platform, I have no idea what the future holds. Therefore, the only way you will for sure never miss out on new recipes and how-to’s is to join my Nourished Dwelling email list (I’ll also send you a copy of my free get started with sourdough ebook!)
Now that thats out of the way, welcome to the Nourished Dwelling. A place I share my heart on living a faith filled life, nourishing our bodies with ancestral food, and being the folks in our suburban neighborhood with an awkward and expanding front yard garden.
My husband and I, Fadi, live on just under an acre in the suburbs of Metro Detroit. I was raised in the country in a town of barely a thousand people. Meanwhile my husband spent the bulk of his childhood here in the city after relocating from Iraq when he was 10 years old. While I adored my childhood, the pursuit of an art degree in college led me to believe city life was where I would find my inspiration. Little did I know I would become a mother and deeply long for the slow rural living in my roots.
About Jillian
I am a (new) homeschooling mom with a passion for loving God, doing things myself, spending time outdoors, and gardening. I find value in cultivating a family culture of meals together and time at home. And together we are relearning most all of what I once thought I knew.
When I became a mother in February of 2020 I had no idea what was in store for me in the coming weeks. Being a brand new mom isolated in the height of a global pandemic changed my life. I had already leaned more towards a holistic health approach with whole food in my fridge and a cabinet full of essential oils. But not being able to access what we needed in the years that followed due to systems set in place really changed my perspective. Ultimately, that led me towards the homestead-y wife and mother I am today.
I’m passionate about creating a home and life we don’t necessarily need a vacation from. A health nut but not in the HIIT workout and almond milk sort of way. I’m inspired by looking to our ancestors for wisdom in how they nourished their bodies for hundreds of years. You can almost always find something fermenting on my counter, sourdough rising in the corner, raw milk in the fridge, and a cabinet full of homegrown, sun dried herbs.
Fun Facts About Me
I’m a mom of two sweet babies, a son who is 3 and a 15 month old daughter.
“Wedding photographer” was my primary title for 11 years.
I have been to western Kenya twice on missions to serve under resourced schools. As well as Nepal and India alongside a team who rescue girls from human trafficking along the border.
I didn’t like coffee until I was nearly 25 years old. Now I’m a two cup a day-er and a latte snob (kidding… kind of)
I’m a three season gardener. And if my city (or lot size) would allow a dairy cow you bet I would own one. I have a homesteading heart just happen to live in the city.
If I am not in my front yard gardening, 9/10 times you can find me in the kitchen.
